The glacial massif extends over the municipalities of Neustift im Stubaital and Telfes im Stubai. In the summer months, the Stubai Glacier is a paradise for hikers and climbers. There are plenty of challenging hiking trails, ranging from easy panoramic trails to tough mountain hikes. Climbers can indulge themselves on the steep rock faces and glacial peaks. In addition, you can also enjoy beautiful views from the Stubai Glacier Road, a spectacular mountain road that winds across the glacier.

A special attraction on the Stubai Glacier is the Gletschergartenweg, a 2.5-kilometre-long path that leads you past various geological phenomena, such as moränes, glacial lakes and crevasses. Along the way, you will also come across several information panels that will tell you more about the formation and preservation of this unique glacial landscape.

Skiing and snowboarding on the Stubai Glacier

For winter sports enthusiasts, the Stubai Glacier is a true dream destination. The ski area has no less than 35 kilometers of slopes, divided over 26 ski lifts and cable cars. The slopes vary in difficulty, ensuring there is something for everyone – from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders.

One of the biggest draws is the Stubai Glacier, a beautiful glacier ski resort at an altitude of 3,210 meters. Here you will find challenging off-piste routes, snow parks and a wide range of blue, red and black slopes. Thanks to its high altitude and the artificial snow production, you can still go there for a day of skiing fun even in the summer months.

In addition to the extensive ski area, you will also find various facilities such as ski lifts, restaurants, bars and après-ski facilities on the Stubai Glacier. For those who want to take a break, there is also a modern glacier wellness center with panoramic views over the surrounding mountain peaks.

Hiking and climbing on the Stubai Glacier

In addition to winter sports, the Stubai Glacier also offers numerous opportunities for hikers and climbers. In the summer months you can enjoy beautiful panoramic hikes and challenging mountain climbs.

Climbers can indulge themselves on the steep rock faces and glacial peaks, such as the Wildspitze (3,768 meters) and the Zuckerhütl (3,507 meters).

Food and drink on the Stubai Glacier

After all that effort, it is wonderful to enjoy the culinary specialties that the Stubai Glacier has to offer. On the glacier itself you will find several restaurants, mountain huts and après-ski places where you can taste traditional Austrian food and drinks.

Highly recommended is the Schaufelspitze Hütte, a cozy mountain hut at an altitude of 3,333 meters with a panoramic view of the glacier. Here you can enjoy typical Tyrolean dishes such as Kaiserschmarrn (sweet pancakes), Käsespätzle (dumplings with cheese) and Tiroler Gröstl (fried potatoes with bacon and onion). Of course, a good glass of Austrian wine or a cold beer with lunch or dinner should not be missed.

In the surrounding villages such as Neustift im Stubaital and Telfes im Stubai you will also find plenty of cozy restaurants, cafes and bars where you can enjoy the local cuisine and drinks. Here you can also enjoy typical Tyrolean delicacies such as Speck (smoked meat), Käse (cheese) and Knödel (dumplings).

The Stubai Glacier is located in the Stubai Valley, a beautiful Tyrolean valley with numerous villages and accommodations for everyone. Whether you are looking for a luxury hotel, a cosy guesthouse or a comfortable apartment - you will find plenty of choice in the glacier area.

In the main village of Neustift im Stubaital you will find a wide range of hotels, resorts and holiday homes. Here you can enjoy modern facilities, excellent restaurants and a warm Tyrolean welcome. For those looking for a more authentic experience, the smaller villages such as Telfes im Stubai and Fulpmes are also highly recommended. Here you will often find family hotels and guesthouses with a personal touch.

Many accommodations in the vicinity of the Stubai Glacier also offer special packages, such as ski slopes, hiking packages or wellness offers. This way you can tailor your stay completely to your wishes and needs.

How to get to the Stubai Glacier

The Stubai Glacier is easily accessible from different directions. From Innsbruck, the nearest major city, it is about a 50-kilometre drive to the glacier. There are several options to get there, such as by car, bus or train.

The Stubai Glacier is easily accessible by car via the Brenner Autobahn (A13) and the Stubaistraße (B183). There is ample parking space at the various entrances to the ski area.

Those who prefer to take public transport can use the Stubaitalbahn, a regional train connection that runs directly to Neustift im Stubaital. From there, it's a short bus ride to the Stubai Glacier. There are also regular buses from Innsbruck to the glacier ski area.

For an even more spectacular route, opt for the Stubai Glacier Road, a mountain road that winds across the glacier and offers beautiful views. This road is only accessible to motorized traffic in the summer months.
